Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin has welcomed the first groups of tourists from China and Kazakhstan to Thailand under a temporary tourist visa exemption scheme. The scheme will be in effect until February 2024 and allows Chinese and Kazakhstani travelers a 30-day visa exemption for tourism purposes. The welcoming ceremony took place at Suvarnabhumi Airport and was attended by the Prime Minister, the Chinese ambassador to Thailand, the Minister of Tourism and Sports, and other officials. China is an important market for Thailand, accounting for 37% of tourist arrivals in 2023, while Kazakhstan has shown strong growth potential.
