Indonesia introduced its first sovereign wealth fund, the Indonesia Investment Authority (INA), in 2021. Unlike other funds, INA aims to attract foreign co-investors instead of relying on commodity revenues. The government hopes that INA will attract investments in infrastructure, digital economy, logistics, finance, tourism, and supply chains. The sovereign wealth fund is an experiment to address the country’s infrastructure needs and spur growth. Despite being resource-rich, the INA will be financed by private investment, including foreign investment, making it different from most other sovereign wealth funds. This bold move aims to finance much-needed investments in infrastructure and emerging industries.
