Data from Trip.com Group shows that Thailand will see a 44.3% increase in total trip expenditure for inbound bookings during this year’s Chinese New Year period compared to last year. Outbound trip expenditure is also expected to rise by 70.8%. During the week of CNY, countries with CNY public holidays make up 69.1% of all SEA bookings, showing a significant increase from the previous week.
Another trend observed is the lengthening of booking windows, with travellers now planning their trips further in advance. The booking window for trips originating from Thailand more than quadrupled from nine days to 40 days this CNY compared to last year. Theme parks are also a popular choice for tourists from Southeast Asia, with Hong Kong Disneyland being the top choice for travellers from Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia.
The top five overseas attractions for Thai travellers include Universal Studios Japan, Tokyo Disneyland, Universal Studios Singapore, and Warner Bros Studio Tour Tokyo – The Making of Harry Potter. This data reflects the changing travel patterns and preferences of tourists from Southeast Asia during the Chinese New Year period.
