Thailand has deferred the introduction of a tourism fee for international visitors until September 2023. The fee, set at 300 baht ($9) per person, had been due to begin in June and was designed to improve tourist destinations and provide medical insurance for visitors. The country’s Tourism and Sports Minister, Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn, cited the need for an efficient collection system and said discussions with airlines were continuing regarding compliance with International Air Transport Association guidelines. The charge will apply to all overseas visitors arriving by sea, air or land. However, exemptions include permanent foreign Thai residents, infants under two, diplomats, work permit holders and one-day and transit passengers.
